The perfect girl

by kah-yoong

2
Funny as it seems, normally only single guys would think of such topics. Most probably they don’t want their girlfriend to get the wrong impression that they are not good enough for them or maybe he’s already content with his current companion. Having been though two separate relationships, I’ve generated a subliminal character filter that what most of you would call criteria. In reality, criteria don’t work. But this post is not about reality. It’s a form of escapism for my imagination to flow free and describe what a perfect girl to me is like.

The first thing that I’ll fall for is the abundance of silicone. If you think breast implants, you are close. I’m thinking of synthetic skin. Right now I think that Hannah knows exactly what I’m talking about. Thanks to the anime Chobits, I’ve found the perfect girl.

Ani07012_2
Imagine; having a companion that looks exactly the same when you first fall for her ten or twenty years ago. She’ll always be young, perky and always maintain a firm abs. That’s the everlasting beauty of silicone, provided anti oxidizing polish is applied on a regular basis. Furthermore, it’s customizable. From breast side, to skin tone, to hair type to eye color. You name it, you get it.

Yes, innards are also silicone based. They are microprocessors with gazillion servos and artificial muscles. Since we’ve already achieved 64 bit computing technology, it won’t be long till multicore 128bit or 256bit processors comes along that’s strong enough to process verbal commands and mimic the basic human interactions, movements and behavior. This way, lolicons have the opportunity to have a persocom girlfriend that looks and acts like a 12 year old without being caught as a pedophile. And if I’ve outgrown the high pitch voice, kawaii behavior of Japanese high school girl, I can always reprogram it to act like a soft spoken, well mannered mature woman. Furthermore, I wouldn’t have to put up with things like constant nagging, insecurity, seeking excessive attention and the sudden urge to force me to drive her to Genting. For those of you who think this is dull and predictable, then you can add codes like “random behavior”.

Ani16006
Arguably, the personality of persocom would be up for questioning. Conservative skeptics would say persocom lack personality compared to humans. But like what I’ve pointed out earlier, with a good processor personality can be programmed. Also, most (mostall) men, wouldn’t know what they want until they see it for themselves. I wasn’t fancy of the Subaru Impreza until I saw it perform in WRC. Likewise with personality. With a library of thousands of personality to choose from, persocom are the most customizable companion any guy can ever wish for.

Chinese new what?

by kah-yoong

Spring1    Another week more then its Chinese New Year and I got myself two pairs of working shirt from SEED (why spend RM60 on a traditional Chinese shirt that I’ll use once versus an RM80 business shirt that I can use through out the season). My parents bought three boxes of mandarin oranges which are now at the coffee table in the living room. Ornaments have been set up and red packets (angpao) packed. Guess we are pretty much looking forward usher New Year of the Chinese calendar.

Right? No, not for me. Somehow I felt that the celebrative spirit has diminished in me. There’s practically nothing to look forward to other than visiting close relatives. You must think that receiving angpao is fun right? Well, if I’m an eight year old, I’d definitely answer yes. Since now my allowance range form RM800 to 1K monthly, what’s RM200 a year to me, now?

Also, when I was eight, I was really looking forward to reunion dinner with my grand parents. There’ll be lots of delicacies that were only available during Chinese New Year. Now that my paternal grandma lives with me, it’s like having reunion dinner every night. Plus, thanks to improved standard of living in JP and businessmen cashing in the upper middle income market, New Year cuisine can be enjoyed at any time you wish at an affordable rate. So, what’s so special with Chinese New Year now?

i’ve no clue what the four chinese character means. it’s just there as decorative purpose

Turning Otaku

by kah-yoong

Ani03006
Yes, I thought I was too cool for Japanese cartoons (anime). In fact, even when I do plan to watch, I kept one thing in mind, it’s just a show. It’s not real. It’s just entertainment. As much as I tried to control myself, I’m slowly slipping away into an otaku realm.

Recently I got myself Chobits collector’s DVD set that comes with free OST CD (Original Sound Track). What’s more it’s cost only RM30. It’s quite a bargain since it contains 3 DVDs of the entire Chobits season (24 episodes) plus three recap episodes. However, I do find the recap episodes a total waste of space, but what the heck, it’s free anyway. What else if free? Loads of Chobits artwork and trailers of Pioneer upcoming DVD titles. So, as you can tell, I buying Chobits was purely on economical grounds and a little hint of curiosity due to the fact Chobits was a huge phenomenon in 2002 and I wanted to know why it’s so hot not only in Japan but also other parts of the world that got so drawn into it.

Ani16012
However, after three days from date of purchase, I was so into the anime. Even when I’ve finished the entire series, I wanted more. In fact, I think I’m becoming obsessed. I never knew I’d beat my younger brother to it. He was already watching Pokemon, Vandread, Rave, E.V.A, Tenjo Tenge and other various titles while I was still stuck with Initial D. That was about one year ago. Now, (I’d call it life post-Chobits) has me questioning my level of otaku-ness. I’ve been googling for Chobits figure and burned myself an extra Chobits OST CD (didn’t want to scratch the original) to be used in my car. Guess, I can consider myself pretty hardcore, something that I’m not very proud of.  O_o

The Color Purple

by kah-yoong

32m

With satellite TV, it’s a very rare occasion I turn on to
normal terrestrial TV for entertainment. I still watch local news but not for
entertainment especially movies because of heavy advertisements. And it’s also
because of advertisements, I revert to getting DVDs for a price than to watch
on TV for free.

However, two Saturdays ago was a different story. In an
ironic turn of events (call if fate if you want to) I was actually channel
surfing in my room since I was bored to my bones, plus, the ASTRO and PC was
occupied. And at that time (10pm I think) TV2 was the only channel showing
something worth watching. The Color Purple, a 1985 show about Celie, a young African
American girl growing up in the early 1900’s. The first time we see Celie, she
is 14 - and pregnant - by her father. We stay with her for the next 30 years of
her tough life. First of, I’m not a fan for oldies (except for shows like Oliver
Twist, Huckleberry Fin, Mary Poppins…) ok, so I like oldies, but not just any
oldies.

Since this movie was made in 1985, I didn’t recognize any of
the cast until later in the middle of the show. I recognized Whoopi Goldberg’s smile
and Oprah Winfrey’s voice. But what caught me was the not the cast, it was the
compelling story, wanting to know more about Celie’s life.

Not to ruin anything, I will not say anything more about this beautiful
movie. You should watch it to enjoy it.

15 Jan 2006, Kembara.net Sunday Drive

by kah-yoong

The kembara.net club held a Sunday drive cum BBQ picnic at Bagan Lalang beach, Sepang, last Sunday.

155km/h
Due to some unforeseen circumstances, Renegade was late and only arriving at 8.50am at Damansara toll. It left us with only 20 minutes to each the KLCC toll rendezvous point so he suggested that we make a break for it. At 9 in the morning, the highway was almost deserted. As traffic were light and the clock ticking against our favor, I floored the peddle and really pushed my kembara to the limits. The a/c and fan was off providing much needed power to propel the car at 155km/h constant speed (at rev of 5500rpm). Since the last service the car was in tip top condition and the car didn’t vibrate at such high speed and rev. It doesn’t take a genius to guess who arrived first.

From A to B
We arrived at the KLCC toll with an additional 3 minute to spare, plus we were the first to arrive. So we stop our car and witted for the rest to turn up. Also give my car a well needed rest after a 50km sprint. As our group members gathered (Renegade, Afida, Guntur) we headed off to our second rendezvous point where the rest of the group who took the scenic route ware waiting. Upon reaching the second rendezvous point we wasted no time greeting each other and introducing ourselves. Those with cameras took this opportunity to snap some pictures. When the main star of the event arrived (Adh123 with his “mihun goring”) team leader Half Cut initiated a small briefing and gave guidelines about the tight convoy to our destination at Bagan Lalang. I was later loaned a walkie-talkie so Half Cut can maintain full communication with the convoy throughout the journey. I got to admit, that I’m very green about radio communication and it’s darn hard for me to understand what they are talking about. One thing that I like about convoys is that it gains people attention. Imagine a fleet of 10 kembara cruising through town and kampong road making a beeline to the beach. And unlike driving alone, driving in a convoy requires lots of attention not only on the road and the person in front, but also the person at the back. There was once when Afida was separated from the convoy due to a slow moving vehicle. I had to called out to the lead car to slow his pace. I was nervous at that time since I don’t know the basic rule of engagement in using the radio.

Bagan Lalang
It took us an approximate 45 minute slow drive to reach our destination. Samsung was already there waiting for us with his family. He reserved a pretty good spot under the trees for us to park our cars. After another round of informal greetings among members, we grub down Adh123 long anticipated “mihun goring” that he prepared himself.
After breakfast, it was time to party! It was a mixed feeling at the beach since it was low tide. Though we did not have the chance for a dip, the flat sandy beach provided its own entertainment. Adh123 brought his kite to fly while I got a soccer ball to kick around. We almost got off road on the beach but we decided not to offend the authority. Besides, there were children playing. As noon approaches, we setup our BBQ grill and prepared lunch, I forgot how hot coal can really get and ended up burning 3 hot dogs. Adh123 (surprisingly I don’t get bored typing his name) saved the day as he made himself useful in front the grill cooking marinated chicken contributed by Half Cut. Adh123 was indeed a good cook as Half Cut’s chicken was quickly snapped up the moment it left the grill. After all the cooking and eating, we started to unwind and laze around. There weren’t much lazing around for Rommel as he was busy with his hyper active kids.

The ride home
When everybody was well rested, it’s time to head home. It was just 4pm but it was getting dark fast as rain cloud approaches. As the last rubbish being put away, Half Cut gave his final debriefing for the day and when it was over, get guys got into a hand shake frenzy bidding each other good bye. All 12 kembara was rolled out from the beach headed for the F1 circuit before breaking into two groups, the scenic route group and the highway group. As my group (highway) pulled into the highway, we went off at our separate pace. I was trying to catch up with Blade who was speeding well above 140kmh. No thanks to poor weather and my lack of confidence on wet road, I decided to sit this race off and instead cruise back home at a mere 130km/h.
Photos in the photo album are leached from Renegade, Ferum, Afida, Anis and Dash.
