Chinese new what?

by kah-yoong

Spring1    Another week more then its Chinese New Year and I got myself two pairs of working shirt from SEED (why spend RM60 on a traditional Chinese shirt that I’ll use once versus an RM80 business shirt that I can use through out the season). My parents bought three boxes of mandarin oranges which are now at the coffee table in the living room. Ornaments have been set up and red packets (angpao) packed. Guess we are pretty much looking forward usher New Year of the Chinese calendar.

Right? No, not for me. Somehow I felt that the celebrative spirit has diminished in me. There’s practically nothing to look forward to other than visiting close relatives. You must think that receiving angpao is fun right? Well, if I’m an eight year old, I’d definitely answer yes. Since now my allowance range form RM800 to 1K monthly, what’s RM200 a year to me, now?

Also, when I was eight, I was really looking forward to reunion dinner with my grand parents. There’ll be lots of delicacies that were only available during Chinese New Year. Now that my paternal grandma lives with me, it’s like having reunion dinner every night. Plus, thanks to improved standard of living in JP and businessmen cashing in the upper middle income market, New Year cuisine can be enjoyed at any time you wish at an affordable rate. So, what’s so special with Chinese New Year now?

i’ve no clue what the four chinese character means. it’s just there as decorative purpose
