That long wait

by kah-yoong

Exactly one and a half hour. That’s how long I’ve waited for
the darn rain to stop so I could get to my car and get some lunch. Well, since I
had to wait till 3pm it’s considered high tea.
Seriously, something is very wrong with our climate. Never have I experienced
such long and heavy down pour in the city outside the monsoon season. With the
way things are going around the world, I seriously don’t know what to expect.
An apocalyptic future is possible with all the killing in the Middle Eastern countries,
more rogue countries armed themselves to the teeth with nuclear weapons and two
continental superpower that continued their course of environmental destruction.

I’m not too worried about floods though. Since, I am after
all living on elevated ground. Kl and Klang would have to be at least 3 meters
submerged before waterline would have reached my main door. Of course, by then the
Maldives will be wiped off
the map and Singapore would shrink back to its original size. Thinking of it, I shouldn’t have bought
a car. Should’ve invested in a boat instead.

Oh well, it’s another day of mindless rambling just to bump
this blog.

Life’s a Beach

by kah-yoong

It’s been a dreadfully long time since I last visited a
beach. Um.. well not long actually, it was a year ago during one of the Kembara
outings, anyway, here’s another blog post on my latest adventure at Legend
Hotel, Water Chalet. During the Raya holidays, we (while family excluding Wai
Leng) went to Port Dickson Legend Hotel for a one night stay. Nothing spectacular,
just a night at a beautifully designed chalet and two lazy days of eating,
swimming, and sand fort building.

First looks, on the chalet.

I’d say it’s one of the most romantic chalet ever built. With
passive lightings at almost every corner and elevation, it’ll sure set the
mood. From the main door, you’ll be greeted with a stone tiled bathroom. Yes,
inside the bath itself with a sky roof shower (excellent natural lighting), a Jacuzzi
look a like bath tub, and a small cubicle for the john. Plus one cannot help
but notice a glass panel on the floor overlooking the sea below. Well, there’s
nothing much to look at actually, just mud plains and oyster infested pillars
during the low tide. On high tide, the water is so murky that you can hardly
see the bottom even at 11 feet of water. (the pillars was marked, so I know how
deep it was).

After the bathroom, only is the bed chamber. We stayed at a
family room, so it’s a king sized bed and a queen sized bed. Guess it’s more
space saving that way then to have a queen size bed and several single bed. One
thing that sets this apart from hotel room is that it has no carpet. A nice cold
wooden floor greets the feet. And also in the center of the room, a window to
the sea below just like the one at the bath. Other miscellaneous matters is a balcony
with two clam chairs and a small table for relaxing under the shade overlooking
at the vast strait with cargo sips sailing up and down the busy strait. Our room
was rather unlucky to be facing other chalet. Kind of pointless to loiter
around here other than fishing or spying at other rooms. If given the chance,
choose the rooms facing the sea.

I’ll try to keep rant to a minimum but knowing my character,
I can’t be helped. First of all, it’s dusty. Not very dusty, but dusty enough
for a chalet with daily maintenance. The floor is dusty when I first set foot
into the bed chamber. Even the windows was dusty. Though I’ll have to admit
that the stone tile bathroom is a cunning design to keep maintenance low due to
its texture which hides dirt and dust. Plumbing was a problem too. It got stuck
on the evening of the first day. Good thing there’s public washroom at the
pool. And the last to get a beating is the beach. I guess it’s a Malaysian
trademark for dirty beaches. The only time when the beach looked clean was from
high tide turning to low tide. For that short 3 hours the water looked clear as
soot, rubbish and whatever pollutant washed outwards. But since the beach is
rather flat plus foundation work at the chalet, the dirt didn’t manage to
travel far and was later wash back to the beach when the tides change again. Basically
everything is stuck in the middle between the sand and open strait.

I’ve uploaded pictures in the photo album with one liner
captions. Memorable and yet not so memorable.
